The bell came to existence when the Lim Teck Kin Tower was built. In those days, it was known as the “Bell Tower”.
Some time around the early 1950s, the principal at the time decided that the school would need the bell and had it installed. Students were not allowed to go to the top of the tower where the bell was hung.
It was suspended right at the top of the tower with a cable hanging below it all the way down to the midway point of the tower where the hall is now situated.
At the time, the bell was only tolled on ceremonial occasions and there was a specially designated ringer called the Lord High Bell Ringer. Only selected staff were given this duty.
In later years, the bell was brought down and erected outside the science block, now the Little Seeds Preschool. It had its own shed to protect it from the elements. The bell stood in its place till the early 1970s where it was taken down and the shed demolished.
That original bell was salvaged and now sits at the new Junior school where it is rung daily to signify the start of school.
